Monday March 17th:
6:02AM – The first early riser stumbled out of bed and ran to the shower to beat the crowd of the morning shower rush. Mission successful.
7:46AM – The rest of us attempted a speedy 15 minute morning routine and ran over to the farmhouse despite the freshly fallen snow. Mission successful for all but one –Omar.
8:07AM – Morning powwow and a lovely, hearty carbfest ensued.
9:03AM – We first began with short introductions through a quick icebreaker in which we all told one another our names, hometown, and fun/intimate/little known fact about ourselves.
10:01AM – Excited to begin the projects only vaguely conceptualized at the Pretty Penny town meeting, Kate and Tyler provided us two team options for the day including farmstand design and garden design. Once relocated, groups set out to challenge their creative goals.
10:17AM – Marketing team (subcategory of farmstand design team) started brainstorming ideas to gain support and awareness from the community for the project to come.
12:34PM – Kale and bean soup paired with parmesan sweet potato fries. Omar was once again tardy.
1:57PM – Gnarly snowball fight ensued. Alliances were formed, enemies were made.
2:11PM – Tyler and Kate guided us around construction site, woodshop and dance floor to better acquaint us with the Institute and gave a demonstration on construction materials/tools.
3:34PM – Continued group work, presentations, finalizing plans.
6:57PM – Make-your-own taco creation for dinner. Omar is teasingly reprimanded for lateness. Again.
9:43PM – Reflection step-in exercise between both NYU and UMBC provided space for all individuals to form meaningful connections with others.
10:29PM- A surprising game of Mafia challenged our intuition and tested our loyalties.
12:56AM – Late night blogging and getting some ZZZs.
