It has been a day since we all drove off of the Gesundheit! Institute property in West Virginia and pulled up right where we departed, NYU’s Kimmel Center. I (and I’m positive several other members) would say it’s a weird feeling to wake up without hearing the conch (blown to signify the start of breakfast, lunch, and dinner) or hearing Zach yell, “(Natasha) Culpepper! Put some pepper in your stepper!” As with every service trip I’ve participated in before, I’ve taken away something from every team member and facilitator. My hope is that this trip continues to have an impact on our team members, whether it is thinking about how to better provide sustainable and local food for the small town of Hillsboro, or how to inject love, joy, and fun into every interaction you have with others (not just limited to patient-doctor interaction). I am looking forward to following up with our contacts in WV to see how the project we started takes off, especially as other groups continue to build off of it!
